There are over a hundred chemical substances that have been derived from plants for use as drugs and medicines. Yet today, modern medicine faces growing challenges: soaring costs for developing new molecules, therapeutic limitations, and significant side effects.
The Science of Ayurveda
Ayurveda — from the Sanskrit Ayur (“Life”) and Veda (“Knowledge”) — is among the most sophisticated medical systems of the ancient world, originating in India over 4,500 years ago. Detailed texts from that era describe medical conditions and outline a vast range of therapies using medicinal plants and minerals. Over centuries, Ayurvedic scholars refined treatments for specific diseases, many paralleling modern medical classifications.
However, the non standardized nature of this ancient knowledge has made it difficult for contemporary medicine to formulate universal solutions.
From Tradition to Today’s Marketplace
Ayurvedic plants such as Ashwagandha, Turmeric, and Ginger are now widely sold as supplements, functional foods, and as the basis for cosmetic and skincare products. Unfortunately, many of these offerings lack rigorous validation of safety and efficacy, relying instead on anecdotal evidence or small scale academic studies.

Deepa Chitre, MD
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Dr. Chitre is the Founder of Bioved Pharmaceuticals, Inc. She received medical degrees from University of California San Francisco and Grant Medical College. Subsequently, Dr Chitre was on the faculty at Stanford University for 10 ½ years. A personal experience led her to the founding of Bioved and to the development of the Discovery Platform for natural plant-based, scientifically validated, human and animal nutraceuticals and phyto-pharmaceuticals. Dr Chitre has several publications and US patents issued, and drives the expansion of Bioved Human and Animal Health in multiple continents of the world.
Deben Dey, PHD
CHIEF SCIENTIFIC OFFICER
Dr. Dey has multiple US, and Intl’ patents issued/applied, and over 60 publications in Drug Discovery and Research; and has received national and international Awards for ‘Scientific Excellence.” With a PhD in Biochemistry, he was on the Faculty at UC Davis. He was the Founder Scientist at Calyx Therapeutics and VP Research at Bexel Pharmaceuticals. Dr Dey has raised funding in Series A, B and C rounds; ran drug discovery research, and built scientific liaisons with pharma companies, academic institutions, and the HID NIH.
Sandeep Davankar, MBA, MS
CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
Experienced Principal and entrepreneur with a demonstrated history of building businesses supporting public and private sectors. He has an MS from Clemson University and an MBA from University of Southern California - Marshall School of Business.
Ajit Chitre
DIRECTOR, INDIA OPERATIONS
Mr. Chitre has been a Director of the Indian subsidiary since its inception. A graduate from the University of Pune, he started his career in medical sales as a very early team member of Lupin Ltd., now one of the top 5 pharmaceutical companies in India. Subsequently he had a successful distribution company of specialty consumer goods with distribution and network all over the sub-continent. He manages the day to day operations of Bioved India.
Alfred Grigsby
VICE PRESIDENT, SALES
Mr Grigsby is a graduate of University of California, Berkeley where he was a star basketball player. He played professionally in Japan & Europe. On returning from basketball, he joined a topical analgesic company, Flex Power in California as VP Business Development. He has been with Bioved for more than 10 years and oversees the sales and marketing division of the company. He has been implemental in exponential sales growth through orthopedists, chiropractors, physical therapists, and distributors.
Jas Mattu, DVM, MBA
CHIEF VETERINARY OFFICER
Dr. Mattu is passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of pets and people. He owned University Veterinary Hospital, was President of Veterinary Passions Associates, and was COO for Vets Beyond Medicine. He received his DVM from Iowa State Uni. and Punjab Ag Uni, followed by an MBA from UC Berkeley, Haas School of Business.
David Merrick
PRESIDENT, ANIMAL HEALTH
He has 30 years in animal health including veterinary practice, academics, distribution, new company launches, generic pharmaceutical and supplement manufacturing. He has certifications in medical cannabis and a bachelor’s degree in Natural Science with minors in Chemistry and Biology. He co-founded Quincy Animal Health (Neutricks®), a product for cognitive dysfunction in pets.
